We treat and prevent tooth decay with tooth-coloured resin fillings, no metal amalgams, to keep your teeth healthy.
It is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment, detection, and prevention of dental caries. It is important to note that dental caries is defined by the WHO as a disease and not just a dental lesion, defining it as follows: 'a localized process of multifactorial origin that begins after tooth eruption, causing softening of the hard tissue of the tooth and progressing to the formation of a cavity'.
The onset of caries and its untreated progression beyond the enamel can lead to more complex problems such as nerve and bone infections, increased sensitivity, tooth discoloration... All of this may require more complex treatments. At Somriures Dental we recommend bi-annual or annual preventive visits to detect these issues at very early stages and avoid the need for any treatment.

Basically, what we do is remove the infected tissue very simply and using local anaesthesia (if required), so that the patient feels no discomfort. Subsequently, we reconstruct the tooth with very biocompatible, aesthetic, and functional materials depending on the area of the lesion. This is commonly known as a 'filling'.
In Somriures Dental, we no longer use metallic amalgam fillings and use modern resin materials that allow us to restore the anatomy, aesthetics and functionality lost due to the lesion.
As we mentioned at the beginning, it is a multifactorial disease. However, it is well known that factors such as poor oral hygiene, diets rich in sugars, frequent snacking, improper toothbrushing, and/or lack of flossing, as well as genetic factors, are the basic elements for constant alterations in oral pH and therefore favour the presence of bacteria that cause caries.
Primarily with good brushing habits. It is important to brush at least 3 times a day, after each meal, and use dental floss as a complementary measure to remove any remaining food debris between the teeth. The brushing technique is essential to achieve proper hygiene, this is why in Somriures Dental we have highly trained doctors, hygienists, and assistants who can re-educate you on how to brush properly. Let's not forget to integrate a healthy and balanced diet into our lives and reduce foods high in sugars such as candies, chewing gum, sugary drinks.

Modern tooth-coloured resins. We no longer use metal amalgams, because resin restores the tooth's shape, appearance and function.
At first it often doesn't hurt. That's why check-ups matter: catching decay early means it can be treated with a small filling.
It keeps advancing until it reaches the nerve, and then a root canal may be needed or the tooth may even be lost.
Brush at least 3 times a day, floss, cut down on sugar and snacking between meals, and come for regular check-ups.
